**3RD & 4TH GRADE MATH**

**HOMEWORK:**

All homework should be written in the assignment notebooks. There will always be homework. Usually a workbook page otherwise IXL, compass learning, Blue Streak Math, DMP or study math facts. Your child should only spend about 20 minutes per night on homework. Please let me know if your child is spending more than 20 minutes. Homework is due the next day unless I tell the students otherwise. If no homework is turned in then the student earns a “0” on the assignment. Late homework is not accepted. If your child is absent they are required to complete homework and classwork. I will keep a folder with their absence work.

**IXL:**

www.ixl.com 30 minutes per week – Friday to Friday. I check on Friday morning at 6:30 a.m. so it must be completed before then. Most days I give students time in class to complete this. This is considered homework for 10% of the grade. Suggested topics are listed on my board in my room but not required. Students have their password in their planner or green folder. 4th graders will sometimes have assigned topics that must be completed or it will be considered a missing even if they work 30 minutes.

**COMPASS LEARNING:**

www.learningodyssey.com 3rd grade students are required to complete 3 activities per week and 4th grade students are required to complete 5 activities. It can be an activity or quiz. The quiz has to be completed at 70% or above. I will check this on Friday. Students have their password in their planner or green folder.

Daily Math Practice – I give to the students on Monday and it is due on Friday. I give students time in class to complete daily. They should not have to work on this at home but are welcome to if they want to. This is considered class work for 20% of the grade.

**Multiplication facts – 3rd**

**grade:**

We will be working on one fact per week. We will have a quiz on Friday that counts for 40% of the grade. If they fail the quiz on facts, they can retake the quiz. They need to study and let me know they are ready to do a retake.

**4**

**th**

**grade:**All 4th graders should know their multiplication facts 0-12. We will have quizzes monthly.

**Tests**:

We have a test after each topic. We review in class and complete a practice test that we review together. I do not find that 3rd graders understand or study for tests. 4th graders do study and I show them and remind them to study for tests. Tests count for 40% of the grade.

**Class Work:**

These are activities done in class not at home. They are usually completed in one day. Sometimes they might need to finish at home if they did not complete during the day. They count for 20% of the grade.

Students have a password for Pearson which enables them to access the websites for math and science. I sent these home if you have lost it let me know.
